Pradnya Darpan – B.Arch. – Semester 3

PRADNYA DARPAN

B.Arch - 2nd Year (Semester 3)

Architectural Design

Interrelation of different activities, designing of spaces where  inter play of various activities takes place in one single complex, the idea of Modules, Modular Assembly and interplay of Modules is the focus in Architectural Design studios this semester. Integration of information from other Subjects like Climate study, etc. into designing is also given attention.

Creative exercises were carried out to trigger the idea of connections between the two modules in simple and complex fractions. ‘Modular coordination’ in Architectural Design was further introduced. The 3 -D creative exercises helped in volumetric visualization of the blocks. Students explored the principles of design through balance, symmetry, rhythm in the placement of brick blocks.

The designing of Guest House where multiple activities take place helped students to design with higher complexity and understand the concept of Modular co-ordination along with the climate responsive strategies.

The skills of Concept development, Mind mapping, Rapid Sketching and Model Making were further refined through this project.

Design project was based mainly on concept evaluation. 8 Millennium Development Goals were introduced to students and they were asked to select any one as their concept. Students had done mind mapping for the same and also rapid sketching for their selection. On the basis of sketching, workable models were prepared with material specifications and joinery details. Drawings were made with architectural details with due considerations to the site.

Architectural Documentation

Documentation of various buildings not only enhances the experiential learning process, (ie learning by first-hand experience) but also develops in students the skills to reproduce actual structures graphically on sheets with accurate details and through photographs. Students are encouraged to participate in various competitions for the same. This year, Students of SMMCA got shortlisted for National Final Jury of COA Students’ Awards for Excellence in Documentation of Architectural Heritage 2019 titled “Documentation of Wada Complex, Lonsavali Village, Wardha, with respect to its indigenous Architecture” and won the cash price of Rs. 10,000/-

Environmental Studies

Environmental Studies is a subject which systematically studies human interaction with the environment. It includes the natural environment, the built environment, and the relationship between them.

The sheets show how students were encouraged to explore these relationships from a variety of perspectives. The aim was to develop awareness and familiarity with environmental studies and its integration with Architectural design. Building rating systems practiced in Indian were also introduced.
