PRADNYA DARPAN

B.Arch - 2nd Year (Semester 3)

Documentation of Tribal Architecture of Bastar region through experiential workshop.

In Allied Design III, the focus was on the Documentation of Tribal Architecture through an experiential workshop cum tour. A study tour to the Bastar region is organized to understand the varied aspects of tribal architecture, known for its tribes and artwork.

In this studio, we explore Tribal Architecture in the Indian context, focusing on settlement documentation and cultural inheritance. Our journey takes us to the Bastar region, where we analyze settlement layouts, dwelling designs, and construction techniques. Finally, we delve into the relationship between activity patterns and space organization within tribal settlements, aiming to appreciate the artistry and wisdom of Tribal Architecture.

COMPOSITE HOUSE – 3RD SEM

In the III semester design studio, the focus was on integrating household and workplace activities into a single composite space, distinct from traditional home usage. The emphasis was on understanding context, functionality, and issues related to composite activities, as well as implementing basic climate-responsive strategies in design.

To grasp the concept thoroughly, students began with precedent studies to determine space requirements for the chosen typology. This was followed by data gathering and anthropometric analysis. Each student identified their area of focus, explored design programs, and worked accordingly. Subsequently, they developed design concepts, zoning plans, detailed site plans, floor plans, sections, elevations, and 3D views.
